Recipes By Rick Bayless
Rick Bayless and wife, Deann, are busy folks. They own Chicago restaurants Frontera Grill and Topolobampo, write cookbooks, produce the PBS series Mexico: One Plate at a Time, and are mom and dad to teenage Lanie. Even so, on Sundays and Mondays—their "weekend" because that's when the restaurants are closed—odds are their home kitchen will be buzzing. "My grandmother thought the way to keep the big, extended family together was to keep them around the table, " says Bayless. And he continues the tradition with friends and colleagues.
Bayless manages to fit entertaining into his hectic schedule by sticking to easy, casual meals seasoned with the south-of-the-border tastes he loves. "I believe sharing meals is one of the most important aspects of culture, " says Bayless. "When you put food in front of people, you create a special relationship. My grandmother used to say that food is the catalyst to conversation."
